1 Thessalonians 5:5-7 – Children of Light

“… For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night…” – ESV / Commentary

James 1:26 – Word Vomit

“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger…” (verse 19)

“…If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless…” – ESV / Commentary

Proverbs 20:9-10 – Weights and Measures

Psalm 33 – Steadfast Love

“…Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you….” (verse 22)

” Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
Praise befits the upright.
 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
 Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

 For the word of the Lord is upright,
and all his work is done in faithfulness.
 He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.

 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.

 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
 For he spoke, and it came to be;
he commanded, and it stood firm.

 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
  The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
the plans of his heart to all generations.
  Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!

 The Lord looks down from heaven;
he sees all the children of man;
 from where he sits enthroned he looks out
on all the inhabitants of the earth,
 he who fashions the hearts of them all
and observes all their deeds.
  The king is not saved by his great army;
a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
  The war horse is a false hope for salvation,
and by its great might it cannot rescue.

 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his steadfast love,
 that he may deliver their soul from death
and keep them alive in famine.

 Our soul waits for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
 For our heart is glad in him,
because we trust in his holy name.
 Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
even as we hope in you.”

Galatians 5:16-17 – Live By The Spirit

“…If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another….” (verses 25-26)

“… But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do…..” – ESV / Commentary

2 Timothy 1:7-9 – Power, Love, and Self-Control

“…for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control…” (verse 7)

“…for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began…” – ESV / Commentary

Deuteronomy 7:9 – Love Him

“…For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth…” (verse 6)

“…Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations…” – ESV / Commentary

1 Corinthians 10:13 – Escape Route

“…he will also provide the way of escape…” (verse 13)

“…No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it….” – ESV / Commentary
