“…For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!…” – ESV / Commentary
So at my church, Harvest Christian Fellowship (Riverside), there is a great study going on called “The Works”. The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me
to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
it is they who stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident.
One thing have I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire in his temple.
For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will lift me high upon a rock.
And now my head shall be lifted up
above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;
be gracious to me and answer me!
You have said, “Seek my face.”
My heart says to you,
“Your face, Lord, do I seek.”
Hide not your face from me.
Turn not your servant away in anger,
O you who have been my help.
Cast me not off; forsake me not,
O God of my salvation!
For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
but the Lord will take me in.
Teach me your way, O Lord,
and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies.
Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;
for false witnesses have risen against me,
and they breathe out violence.
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit, that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.” – ESV / Commentary
I want to live like Christ! Do you?
Was I love
When no one else would show up
Was I Jesus to the least of those
Was my worship more than just a song …..
Am I proof
That You are who you say You are
That grace can really change a heart
Do I live like Your love is true …..
And even if they don’t know my name
Is there evidence that I’ve been changed
When they see me, do they see You …..
Our goal should be to become more like Christ, our lives should emanate His love for us, His character to be always in our actions and in our speech, let’s vow to take that first step today.
Join us next study in a Beautiful Exchange as we dig deeper into the Sacrifices of Christ.
“…The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him…” [esv]
Fun Fact: Did you know that the roots of the Cedars of Lebanon grow so deep and so wide underneath the Earth that they actually connect and merge together with other Cedars of Lebanon, creating a whole network of roots that over time become one tree as a whole, sharing the same nutrients. Doesn’t that remind you of something familiar? That’s right, that is what the Church is, we are all connected together through our roots in Christ and share the same nutrients and truths that allow us to grow together and build each other up!
